When many people think of the South and the outdoors, different things pop in their heads.  You think of whitetail deer, wild turkey, maybe even a lake, pond, or even a beach or two.  When I think of the South, the first things that come to mind are giant, open pine trees filled with wire grass and other thick cover that has always been native to the Georgia.  The next thing that I think of are coveys of quail, top notch bird dogs on point, and the fellowship involved in a good ol’ southern style quail hunt.  This past Friday, my fellow show hosts, Kevin, Trey, and I had the privileged of traveling to Shadow Oak Plantation and spending the day in the woods with our friends from Johnson Distributing, Mr. Joe and Lynn Johnson.

We arrived a bit before 9AM where we were greeted by our guide, Caleb.  The morning was cool and crisp as the sun began to rise over the pines and warm the 30 degree temperatures.  It was a perfect day to be in the woods.

We were glad to be able to document the hunt with some great photos from our Nikon cameras throughout the day, one that will for sure be in our memories for a long time to come.

Popular hosting trio of Lee, Wetherington, and Knighton will continue putting the wild outdoors in your face each week.

Hahira, GA (February 16, 2010) – Backwoods Life Television, the award-winning outdoors TV program, announced today it will continue airing its popular outdoors program on the Pursuit Channel through 2010.

Hosted by fun-loving outdoors personalities Michael Lee, Trey Wetherington, and Kevin Knighton, Backwoods Life TV goes where few Pursuit Channel programs dare- putting the viewers in the middle of the action. From some of the most thrilling big game hunting in the wide-open West to dangerous alligator hunting in the remote swamps of Florida, Backwoods Life TV pushes the limits each and every week.

Michael Lee was very excited about last season and even more pumped about 2010. Lee shares some details about Backwoods Life TV’s 2nd year on the Pursuit Channel.

“We had a great experience airing in primetime on the Pursuit Channel in 2009 and our viewers can expect an even greater commitment from Backwoods Life TV to produce high-quality outdoors entertainment during the 2010 TV season.” said Lee, “Look for Backwoods Life TV to travel to some new locations and film more diverse hunts. Backwoods Life TV will continue its current schedule on the Pursuit Channel: Tuesdays at 6:00pm, Thursdays at 5:30PM EST and Fridays at 8:30PM EST. Backwoods Life TV also offers each episode on its website (www.BackwoodsLife.com) shortly after it airs.

Yep, we’re still hitting the woods! I know the season is out in most of the country, but Alabama and Mississippi, among a few others, are still going strong with the rut even wide open!

We’re still filling tags too! Michael Lee arrowed a nice Alabama buck at Rockbridge Lodge with his dad, Mike Lee, behind the camera and junior Bohnhead, Treb Wetherington, tagged a southern Alabama stud with his dad and show host, Trey Wetherington, running the camera for him!

Hunter’s Specialties Pro Staff member Alex Rutledge will be the Backwoods Life Radio guest on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at 6 PM EST.

Backwoods Life Radio, a live outdoors radio program hosted by Backwoods Life TV’s Michael Lee, Kevin Knighton, and Trey Wetherington, is heard locally each Wednesday in the Valdosta, GA Area on 105.9 FM – WVGA and is also streamed live on the internet.

Rutledge, of Birch Tree, Missouri, has over 30 years of hunting experience. He is an accomplished turkey, deer, elk, and predator caller.

Rutledge holds several turkey calling titles, including the National Amateur Turkey calling Championship in 1987, the Missouri State Turkey Calling Championship in 1987, and the Grand National Gobbling Championship in 1988. He is also a two-time South Central Missouri Ozark Calling Champion, Southeast Missouri Gobbling Champion, and the Southwest Open Turkey Calling Champion.

Rutledge conducts seminars across the country on hunting whitetails and turkeys, sharing his knowledge, faith, and sense of humor with the hunting community.

In 2007, Rutledge was inducted into the Legends of the Outdoors Hall of Fame for his lifelong dedication to the sport of hunting and his efforts to introduce women, children, and disabled individuals to the outdoors.
